How is SISTER House different?

SISTER House will be long-term, holistic and self-sufficient.

Our vision differs from other Madison-area organizations and programs in that it is more than a program. The SISTER House experience will be long-term and holistic – a “one stop shop” where each woman will gain life skills, live in a safe environment, become employed, and learn how to responsibly balance self, family, and work.

Each woman will make a commitment to herself, and to the other participants, to build a strong foundation for her life. Each woman will be an integral part of the SISTER House community and share in all household responsibilities and decisions - financial and otherwise.

Each woman will be allowed to truly “get on her feet” and “practice” new skills before she is “on her own.” Most importantly, each woman will incrementally build her own pathway to, and foundation for, successful living.

Also, SISTER House’s goal is to be entirely self-sufficient. We aim to do this by owning and operating one or more businesses that will provide the income needed to sustain our operations. We are currently exploring options and writing business plans. The businesses will not only provide income for our operations, they will also provide job opportunities for the SISTER House women.

We need, we grow, and together we build.
