Our Vision
SISTER House, Inc. is an organization with an innovative vision for women transitioning from prison, jail, or AODA treatment into the Madison, Wisconsin community.

We will encourage and challenge each woman for at least one full year, while offering a safe living environment, employment, and an array of life skills workshops.

We will walk with each woman, into self-understanding and self-sufficiency, so that she can be the successful person she was created to be.

SISTER House's goal is to be entirely self-sufficient. We aim to do this by owning businesses that will generate the income needed to sustain our operations while enhancing each woman's job and life skills.

While continuing to strive toward our larger vision, we are sponsoring two Oxford Houses for women -- Madison Place Oxford House and Northside Oxford House. Madison Place Oxford House was Wisconsin's first women's Oxford House. For more information about Oxford Houses, please see the Oxford House website.

We are raising seed money in order to start our own housing and business operations. SISTER House is a 501 (c) (3) organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Why is SISTER House needed?
Currently, there are about 1,200 women imprisoned in Wisconsin. There are additional women in jail or in short-term AODA treatment programs (in lieu of incarceration) or in post-incarceration programs. Each year approximately 400 of these women will return to Wisconsin communities.

Many of the women will return without the education, employment history, and life-skills necessary to successfully reintegrate into society. SISTER House is needed to provide a real place with real opportunities for returning women.

How is SISTER House different?
SISTER House's vision differs from other Madison-area organizations and programs in that it is more than a program. We will offer a long-term and holistic experience. Each woman will be allowed to truly "get on her feet" and "practice" new life skills before she is "on her own."

Also, as stated above SISTER House's goal is to be entirely self-sufficient. We aim to do this by operating one or more of our own businesses.
